Brief Resume<\/strong> | Maria Jo\u00e3o Amante<\/p>\n

Holder of a degree, Master\u2019s degree, and a Ph.D. in Psychology from the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of the University of Coimbra;<\/p>\n

She has been teaching at the School of Education of the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu [ESEV\/IPV] since 1988 and she is a Full Professor of the Department of Psychology and Education Sciences. As a professor, she has been involved in the Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Social Education, the Master\u2019s Degree in Psychosocial Intervention for Children and Youth at Risk, and the Master\u2019s Degree in Special Education.<\/p>\n

Coordinator of the IPV Psychology Service.<\/p>\n

She is also the author of several publications and communications and has taken part in several research projects.<\/p>\n

My desire to apply to the position of Student\u2019s Ombuds reflects my concern, my engagement, and the close relationship I have developed with the students, from the moment I started to teach, first in Secondary Education institutions (1986-88) and then at the School of Education of the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu [ESEV\/IPV], from 1988 onwards.<\/p>\n

The core of all formal or non-formal organisations, whether they be schools, companies, institutions, or families, is the people upon which they are built and the relationships they establish among them. This is the motto I live by and the one I try to put into practice, both personally and professionally.<\/p>\n

The well-being of all students should be the main focus of any educational institution and the Student\u2019s Ombudsman can and should play a crucial role in this endeavour, by listening, guiding, and tending to their needs and concerns, and by favouring a healthy environment and a positive experience at this stage of their education.<\/p>\n

My insight into how the IPV and its schools work, as well as my deep knowledge of their management bodies and regulations are major assets that grant me greater openness and availability to listen to, advise and guide all the IPV\u2019s students and stand for their rights; to respect and cooperate with the organisations representing the students (Associations) and to ensure coordinated work with the bodies and entities that most directly deal with students; to respect and cooperate with the school management bodies, especially with the school Pedagogical Council, in matters deemed important or necessary or whenever my cooperation is required; to collaborate with the IPV\u2019s Department of Responsibility and Social Innovation in initiatives aimed at the students\u2019 well-being; to cooperate with the whole academic community as well as with the community in the implementation of actions and\/or initiatives that aim at facilitating students\u2019 integration and that will contribute to a positive image of the IPV.<\/p>\n

As part of my work project, I will focus on three major concerns: School Dropout, Mental Health, and the Well-Being and the Quality of Life of all IPV students.<\/p>\n

I will be open to new proposals that are likely to promote the well-being of students and the whole IPV community and to new challenges and opportunities that may arise or that are of importance to all students.<\/p>\n

Everyone\u2019s cooperation will be welcome.<\/p>\n

My commitment to you is that I will always be available to listen to your concerns, guide you, and stand for your rights.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
